Two Cases of Familial Paroxysmal Kinesigenic Choreoathetosis

Abstract
|
|
|
The familial paroxysmal kinesigenic choreoathetosis is a subtype of paroxysmal dyskinesia: the disease is characterized by dystonic posture, choreoathetosis with r without ballism which are provoked by sudden movement. It has another
characteristic
features as follows: (1) its onset is usually between 5 and 15 years in age, (2) the duration of each attack is less than minutes, (3) there is no episode of loss of consciousness or urinary incontinence, (4) there is good response to
antiepileptic
drugs.
We experienced two cases in a one family :one is a 23 year old woman solider, the other is her brother, 22 year aged. Thus we report their clinical findings with review of literatures.
